Students learn about the 4 different body systems and compare human systems with the systems of other animals.
The digestive system is responsible for taking our food and breaking it down into nutrients. Some animals’ digestive systems are designed for specific food and habits. Some carnivorous plants also have a digestive system. Students follow a detailed experimental procedure to make observations about a digestion model.
The musculo-skeletal system includes 3 types of muscles and the bones that make up our skeleton. Some animals have adapted their muscles and skeleton to survive in different environments. Some animals have an exo-skeleton – a skeleton outside their body.
The respiratory system involves the exchange of gasses using the nose, mouth, lungs. Plants exchange gasses through photosynthesis.
The circulatory system transports oxygen and nutrients through the body and removes waste products. Plants and animals also have circulatory systems but they may look and respond differently than human’s system.
Indigenous people have used a variety of plants to help digestion, muscle and bone problems, respiratory and circulatory issues.
